Around Town in Nice

Around Town in Nice

Nice, like many towns in the South of France, has an old-town section, known as Vieille Ville.  Here, the streets are old-time narrow, allowing only enough room for the passage of pedestrians and carts.  The labyrinthine walkways, with buildings so close together you can spit across to your neighbor, lie mostly in the shadows, with the sun blocked out by the tight-packed nature of the old structures. However, every so many streets, you come to a large open square, resplendent in sunshine once again, and showcasing grand old buildings, impressive architecture, the goods and wares of numerous artisans, and the occasional street performer.
